On Friday, gates open at 4pm for the Friday Night Beach Concert at Mackay Surf Club, which starts at 5pm). This event runs until approximately 10pm. On Saturday, gates open at 10.30am for the Main Event. This takes place across multiple venues, including the Mackay Surf Club (starting line), Dispensary VIP Deck (finish line), Beach Club, Cabanas and the parklands - all kicking off at 11am. The Main Event concludes around 5pm, with various after parties then running until approximately 10pm. On Sunday, gates open at 11am for the Sunday Recovery Session at Mackay Surf Club. This runs from approximately 11am until 5pm.
You are free to enter and exit the Event Precinct at your own discretion, provided you keep your armband on at all times. Please bear in mind that it will be necessary for you to be reprocessed by security upon re-entry.
Due to the beachfront location, no onsite parking is available. We highly recommend making use of the event shuttle buses or alternate arrangements.
For Saturday, this depends on your ticket type. If you have selected General Admission, we recommend BYO camp chairs and/or picnic rugs. If you have selected a premium or VIP option, including Beach Club, a Beach Cabana, Starting Line @ The Surf Club or The Dispensary VIP Deck, seating is provided. For the Friday Night Beach Concert and Sunday Recovery Session, we recommend BYO camp chairs and picnic rugs; however, some seating will be available.
While children are permitted to attend most parts of Mackay Beach Horse Races under the supervision of a parent, guardian or adult, this is not an Event designed for children, and as such, there are limited activities available for them. Please note the Beach Club and The Dispensary VIP Deck are designated 18+ adults only areas, while the Friday Night Beach Concert, Starting Line @ The Surf Club, Beach Cabanas, and General Admission areas (including the Friday Night Beach Concert and Sunday Recovery Session) are open to youths and children. For those who’ve purchased a Beach Cabana, please note your Beach Cabana accommodates 10 adults; however, you are more than welcome to add on youths/children (in addition to the 10 adults) - simply purchase the relevant youths/children a Youth or Child General Admission Ticket.* *(For example, a Beach Cabana is booked for ten adults who have a combined total of four children - one aged 4, one aged 5-12 and two aged 13-17. This group will purchase 1 x Beach Cabana, plus 2 x Youth General Admission, plus 1 x Child General Admission, and the 4 year old is free of charge. All 14 individuals will share the one Beach Cabana.)

We get wet! The Event will proceed rain or shine; however, average June temperatures are in the low to mid 20s (with overnight lows of around 15 degrees), and an average of 6 days’ rain, so the odds are favourable for pleasant conditions. Some shade and cover around the Event Precinct is available, but please note umbrellas are not permitted for safety reasons.
It is a condition of entry to the Event that searches of patrons and/or their bags/possessions may be undertaken. If you do not consent to such searches, you may be denied entry to the Event. In such circumstances, no refunds will be given. Please note: any prohibited items located during bag searches will be confiscated and not returned.

The Mackay Beach Horse Races Event Precinct is located along East Point Drive, Mackay Harbour, with the starting line on the beach in front of Mackay Surf Club, and the finish at the Dispensary VIP Deck (temporary structure). It’s approximately 10 mins drive from the city centre and less than 20 mins from Mackay Airport.
Mackay Beach Horse Races runs from 10 to 12 June 2022. Kick things off at the Friday Night Beach Concert, experience all the fun and excitement of the Main Event on Saturday, and then unwind at the Sunday Recovery Session.

Yes. Taking photographs or videos for personal use is no problem. However, photo/videography for commercial use is not permitted without Promoter accreditation.
Yes. However, all water/soft drink containers must be sealed and glass is not permitted. All eskies and bags will be searched at the security checkpoint and any BYO alcohol confiscated. The Event Precinct is a licensed area with a wide variety of food and drinks available. Free water refill stations are available around the Event Precinct, and bottled water is also available for purchase.
No alcohol may be brought into the Event Precinct, and the entire Event Precinct is a glass-free zone. The Event Precinct will house licensed bars and free water refill stations, as well as a variety of food vendors.
No dogs or other domesticated pets are permitted in the Event Precinct, except for registered Guide Dogs or Service Animals. Please contact to advise if you will require a Guide Dog or Service Animal to accompany you to this event so we can assure the appropriate facilities are available and located conveniently to your area.
Items which could reasonably be considered hazardous or disruptive to other patrons or the horses should not be brought into the Event Precinct. Such items include but are not limited to: Air horns, drones or other remotely controlled toys/technologies, flammable liquids, flares, fireworks, sparklers, explosives, fire twirling gear (or similar), glass bottles, glass containers etc., illicit drugs and/or illegal substances, laser pointers/pens/equipment, skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, rollerskates, bicycles, quad bikes, Segways, hoverboards or other personal motorised vehicles, sound systems, spray paint, markers, sharpies or similar, studded belts/cuffs or similar, toy guns, water guns, sling shots or similar, umbrellas, unauthorised flyers/stickers/samples/promotional merchandise or similar, weapons and/or explosives, and any other item deemed by Event Security or Event Staff (at their own discretion) to be potentially dangerous or disruptive to other patrons or the horses. Any such items found on patrons will be confiscated and not returned. Holders of any such items may be excluded from the Event Precinct without refund. Patrons found to be participating in any illegal activities may additionally be referred to the Queensland Police Service. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse entry to any person.

Children under the age of 5 receive free entry, with reduced admission applicable to older children (aged 5-12) and youths (aged 13-17) before adult (18+) ticketing pricing applies. Please note: a high school ID card or government-issued proof of age (e.g. a learner/driver’s licence) should be produced at the gate by anybody entering the event on a Youth Ticket. Failure to produce such ID may result in the balance of a full-priced ticket becoming payable. Those wearing Child armbands (i.e. aged 12 and under) must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other responsible adult at all times. No alcohol may be purchased or consumed by those wearing Child or Youth armbands.
Tickets can be purchased outright using Visa and Mastercard (debit or credit) or via our flexible Buy Now Pay Later option, Time to Pay.
Time to Pay is our Buy Now Pay Later ticketing facility, allowing you to make equal instalment payments over a nominated period of time. Pay only your initial deposit and booking fee to secure your tickets, then future payments are debited from your nominated account at the specified intervals. To participate, simply select the Time to Pay option at checkout. It’s that easy!
Please print your ticket at home (black ink is sufficient) or bring the PDF file and display the ticket barcode on your phone for scanning.
Save a PDF version of your ticket on your computer and send it to the printer associated with your home network. (Colour or black ink is fine, as long as the barcode is clear.)
Once your tickets have been named, if you require late changes/transfers, please contact for assistance. (There is no additional cost for this service.)
E-tickets are sent by email once you’ve placed your order. However, if preferred, you can choose to have your tickets delivered by registered post instead. An extra fee of $9.00 per order applies to this service.
Tickets are ordinarily non-refundable, except in accordance with Australian Consumer Law. (Full Event Terms and Conditions, including processes around COVID-related cancellation or postponement are available HERE.) Please note: ticket holders who feel unwell in the week leading up to the Event, or who have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected COVID case in that time are not to attend. Yes. ATMs will be conveniently located around the Event Precinct. All bars and most market vendors also accept (and prefer) EFTPOS, minimising the need for cash.
Dedicated viewing areas accessible to those in wheelchairs, using mobility aids, with medically limited walking range, or with vision and/or hearing impairments are available, as are accessible bathroom facilities, parking, and more. Please select the Accessible ticket types during booking to receive these allocations. (NB: a relevant concession card or doctor’s certificate confirming an acute condition must be produced at the gate.) Please note: companion card holders are entitled to receive one free ticket for their carer or companion upon the purchase of a Concession Event Ticket. Yes. A dedicated First Aid Station will be in operation within the Event Precinct for the duration of the Event. Please refer to site maps (once released) for location details.
Unfortunately, there are no cloakroom facilities available and Event organisers are unable to take care of property for patrons. If uncertain whether an item may be prohibited, we recommend leaving it at home. Similarly, we do not recommend wearing or carrying unnecessary valuables.
